Speciality contact lenses - Scleral Lens

Patients with Keratoconus has cornea that is progressively thin and irregularly shaped. Irregularly shaped corneal surface scatters the light entering the eye and causes distorted vision.

scleral lensesScleral lenses are designed to bridge over the entire distorted cornea, resting on the white part of the eye (sclera), provide a smooth corneal surface artificially. They not only restore vision of patients with Keratoconus and other Ocular Surface Disease (OSD), but also protect the already unhealthy cornea from further damage. Patients with Keratoconus, pellucid marginal corneal degeneration, post-laser-surgery ectasia , corneal scarring due to trauma, some congenital corneal diseases will benefit from Scleral lenses.

Scleral lenses are fitted with saline solution or artificial tears filled between the back of the scleral lens and the cornea, they are also used for patients suffering from Dry Eye Syndrome (DES) caused by conditions such as Sjogren's syndrome, graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) and Stevens-Johnson syndrome.

Additionally, scleral lenses provide vision solution for patients with high myopia, high hyperopia and high astigmatism when 20-20 vision can not be achieved by soft contact lenses or glasses.
